The Greehey Family Foundation is committed to transforming the lives of under-served populations in San Antonio and Bexar County. We do this by providing grants to effective nonprofit organizations dedicated to improving the health and human welfare conditions of children and youth, families, the elderly, the homeless, and other disadvantaged individuals.
Founded by Bill and Louree Greehey, we represent a lasting family legacy of giving back. Today, we remain deeply committed to supporting nonprofit organizations that strengthen our community and lift up our neighbors. Our charitable giving focuses on San Antonio and Bexar County, a community where our family roots run deep and our commitment to philanthropy continues to grow.
We prioritize the well-being and dignity of every individual.
We are dedicated to strengthening and uplifting the community we call home.
We earn and maintain trust through fairness, transparency, and respect in all that we do.
Throughout Bill Greehey’s remarkable 46-year career, which included building the nation’s largest petroleum refining and marketing company, he established himself as one of America’s most successful, visionary, and philanthropic leaders. Guided by his belief that “you are never truly a success until you share your success with others,” Bill and his wife Louree created The Greehey Family Foundation in 2003 as a charitable legacy for their family.
Funding is provided to nonprofit organizations throughout San Antonio and Bexar County at the discretion of the Foundation’s Board of Directors. We may also consider requests from outside Bexar County when programs serve individuals from the greater San Antonio area. Our Board meets twice annually to review grant applications.
The Foundation is seeking a dynamic, diplomatic, seasoned team player to lead the Foundation. The ED must be comfortable working closely with the Board of Directors, which consists of family members, and staff in a “hands-on” way in setting strategy, creating new processes, and building systems. This is a unique opportunity for an accomplished nonprofit leader to steward a significant philanthropic resource and make a meaningful difference in one of Texas’ most vibrant communities.
The ideal candidate should have excellent planning, facilitation, interpersonal, and communication skills and should demonstrate a track record of organizational and team management. The Executive Director serves as the chief executive officer of The Greehey Family Foundation and should be a collaborative leader who can continue to translate the Foundation’s mission and values into meaningful action while building trust and fostering excellence across all aspects of the organization.
